18. Dangle your feet in the lazy Neches River at the Riverfront Park that meanders along the banks in downtown Beaumont.

19. Want a new boat experience?  Try a kayak down Village Creek.

20. Or get really soaked,  try it in a tube.

21.  Feel lucky? -- there are more than 700 fishing tournaments a year at the lakes near Jasper.  Call the Chamber for details on the next one.

22.  Put in a Spindletop Bayou and meander through the string of lakes in McFaddin Wildlife Preserve.

23. Or wander through the world famous Anahuac Wildlife Preserve a birders paradise and great place to view alligators.

24. The moss, the swamp, the oaks, the mystery of the watery Tony Houseman/ Blue Elbow State Park in Orange will animate you.  Get started by walking the board walk at the Texas Visitor's Center on the I-10 as you enter Texas.

25.  Splash in the sand and ski on Lake Rayburn from the Twin Dykes Marina just out side of Jasper.

28.  Port Neches has a pair of boat ramps that opens to the grandeur of the Neches River or lets you ride a ways to see some of Southeast Texas Industry from the water side.

29. Hang out over the water and enjoy the best the water has to offer -- its all dock side at the Channel Inn in Sabine Pass, Esthers Restaurant in Port Arthur or the Stingaree Restaurant in Crystal Beach.

30. Try a morning of laziness watching the ship traffic ply along the water as you sit or jog on the seawall in Port Arthur.

31. Catch the moist sea air and ocean aromas as you watch the shrimp boats unloading at Port Bolivar or Sabine Pass.

32.  Enjoy your water from afar with a drive across the Rainbow Bridge from Port Arthur to Bridge City --- be careful the view is exhilarating.

33. Want to see what all those boats are zooming up and down the channel for?  Stop by one of the local ports in Port Arthur, Beaumont or Orange for a free tour.

34.  Try a misty morning trail hike through the secluded Turkey Creek unit of the Big Thicket National Park.

35.  Or try a real canoe adventure from the upper reaches of the Neches River Corridor of the Big Thicket National Park down to Beaumont Unit.  Bring camping gear and hole up on one of the sand bars.

36. Camp over night at Village Creek State Park in Lumberton and try an early morning dip in the creek.  Wake up fast.

37.  Test your skill fishing for rainbow trout at Claiborne Park West in Orange and then try the mountain bike trail to work a a real wet sweat.

38.  Wade in a slough (creek) at Martin Dies State Park and check out the local wildlife on the nature trails  including woodland warblers, woodpeckers, bluebirds, herons, wood ducks, cranes, and alligators.  While at Martin Dies State Park, check out the winter bald eagle census conducted at the nearby Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

39.  Head off into the Gulf of Mexico for a deep sea fishing trip with one of several guides operating out of Sabine Pass.

40.  Camp out to the smell of fresh sea breezes  -- try Sea Rim State Park,  Fort Travis, or several RV parks on Bolivar Peninsula, including  Crystal Canal RV Park or Bolivar Yacht Club

41.  Wade the swamp for some of the best duck hunting in the world in Anahuac and McFaddin Wildlife Preserves.

Clifton Steamboat Museum  8727 Fannett Rd • (409) 842-4543  Admission: Yes • Museum hours: 9:00 am-5:00 pm Mon-Sat • Noon- 5pm Sun  The complex is a 24,000 square feet two-story museum honoring military and civilian heroes: past, present and future. There are exhibits dealing with U.S. military history.

50. Doguet's Crawfish Farm   1801 E. Hwy. 90 • (409) 752-5105  Admission: Free..Seasonal • Hours: Daily January-June and by appointment     Come experience and see the procedure of farming crawfish. Learn how crawfish are raised, purged and  marketed in today's world. or
H&L Crawfish Farm     S. China Rd. • China • (409) 752-5514 • (409) 835-1017      Admission: Free • Hours: 7 am-5 pm daily (Jan 1-June 14) • Tour: 30 min-1 hour, by appointment only   Here you can visit the crawfish pond, the barn and the purging facilities that make this one of the most  successful wholesale and retail crawfish farms in the area.

51.  Toss a coin in the rockwork fountain between two 100-year-old live oaks in the McFaddin Ward House Garden in Old Town Beaumont.

52.  Check out the maritime history of the Gulf Coast at the Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur.

53.  Check out Southeast Texas' largest salt water aquarium at the Texas Energy Museum  and while your there -- check out our favorite kind of wet-- oozy oil.

54.  The electricity industry in the Gulf States had a watery beginning -- check out how it went from Ice and Lights to the modern dynamo that is Entergy Corporation.  The Edison Plaza Museum.

55.  From there head across the street  to the  Fire Museum of Texas and see how wet has been used to put out fires for more than 100 years.

56.  Go shelling along the McFaddin Beaches or the Bolivar Peninsula.

57.  Go crabbing at Rollover Pass on Bolivar Peninsula.

58.  Check out the beautiful Village Creek  vistas on the flood plain trail at the 5,600-acre Roy Larsen Sandyland Sanctuary  between Kountze and Silsbee.

59. Check out the water slides at Boomtown USA on the I-10 in Rose City.    409-769-6105.

60.  See alligators up close on the Gambusia Nature Trail at Sea Rim State Park--the boardwalk crosses marsh ponds that are home to many 'gators." Sea Rim State Park -- the boardwalk goes out over a swamp area  where small alligators are often seen.

61.  Really get the taste of the salty air.  Ride the free ferry from Bolivar Peninsula to Galveston.  Unless you are in a hurry, this is a great diversion in the ride to Houston from Louisiana.

62.  Walk across the bridge at Martin Dies State Park to the wildlife preserve and taking a breath taking view of the north part of the lake -- a wildlife paradise.

63.  Go swimming in the Big Thicket.  Call the Big Thicket office for directions.

64.  Catch a guided canoe tour trip at  Martin Dies Jr. State Park for tranquill a water side view of its tremendous biodiversity.
