Texas Parks and Wildlife Department often sponsors a biologist-led canoe trip of Blue Elbow Swamp (Orange) for those with their own canoes. The $25 annual Texas Conservation Passport and strong paddling muscles are required. Canoe Camping Toledo Bend -US 190 TripThis 54-mile section of the Sabine River forms the boundary line between Texas and Louisiana. Here, the river is approximately 75-100 feet wide and slow-moving. Adequate water levels for recreational use exists even during times when the hydropower plant is not releasing. In addition, the quality of water below Toledo Bend Dam is excellent. This section of the Sabine River is very scenic and serves as habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species. US 190-Hwy 12 Canoe TripThis 56-mile section of the Sabine River is very similar to the section immediately above it until you reach the Big Cow Creek confluence about 21 miles downstream. The river forms the boundary between Texas and Louisiana and is wide, very scenic, and isolated since there are no roads crossing the entire 60-mile stretch. Hwy 12-Gulf of Mexico Trip This 37-mile section of the Sabine River in Newton and Orange Counties from SH 12 to the mouth of the river where it enters Sabine Lake is feasible for recreational use at all times. In the vicinity of IH-10 crossing, the river is approximately 300 feet wide. |

Sea Rim State Park Explore over 4,000 acres of marsh ponds, lakes and waterways at Sea Rim State Park's Marshlands Unit. Canoeing Sea Rim State Park is a great way to observe a variety of birdlife and the American Alligator. The marsh lakes and cuts are popular spots for fishing. Bring your own kayak or rent a canoe at the Park's D. Roy Harrington Beach Unit. Lifejackets provided with canoe rentals. Primitive camping available on 2 platforms in the marsh accessible by canoe or shallow-draft boat. Channels are marked by numbered posts; maps of the Marshlands Unit are available free of charge. Park Entry Fees charged; this applies to all persons including those launching from the Marshlands Unit boat ramp. Park Entry Fees waived for holders of State Park Annual Pass or Parklands Passport.
