Blue Elbow Swamp As you enter Texas from Louisiana you cross over the Sabine River and the Blue Elbow Swamp -- this area is protected as the Tony Houseman/Blue Elbow Swamp State Park The 3,300 acre wildlife management area, is mostly accessible only by water. Old logging canals feed off the of the Sabine River and several short bayous cut through the WMA to give great fishing spots. The WMA has three designated camp sites (water access only). Siecke State Forest Fishing available in Trout Creek and in pond near district headquarters. Swimming plus covered picnic shelters along creek. Located near Texas-Louisiana border and Sabine River. This 1,722-acre forest was named for E O Siecke, a Texas State Forester from 1918-1942. 409 423-2890 General Directions: 25 miles south of Jasper on US 96. Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge Champion Lake is not just your ordinary fishing lake. It consists of 800 plus acres of flooded cypress trees. You will have the opportunity to catch several varieties of fish, such as bass, crappie or catfish. The wildlife is always abundant. Keep your eye out for alligators, opossum, beavers, otters, not to mention a few snakes. As a fisherman, or a boater you will be able to enjoy our brand new boat ramp. If you do not have access to a boat, you can fish along a 2,000 foot levee or enjoy our new fishing pier with handicap accessibility. Champion Lake is also the only FREE public fishing lake in Liberty County. (From I-10, exit FM 565, Old River/Winfree. Go north 3 miles to FM 1409. Turn right on FM 1409 for another 3 miles to CR 417. Turn right on CR 417 for 1.8 miles.) |
