The McFaddin-Ward House
was built in When W.P. H. and Ida Caldwell McFaddin moved their young family into their house in 1907, Beaumont was still feeling the economic effects of the discovery of oil at nearby Spindletop in 1901. Having already accumulated considerable wealth fromthe cattle business, rice farming and milling, commercial real estate, and trapping, the family prospered even further since Mr. McFaddin owned part interest in the land where oil was discovered. 10a.m. -3 p.mn. John Jay French Museum
Step into an 1845 home, which has been carefully restored to the simple Greek Revival Style. La Maison Beausoleil "House of Beautiful Sunshine" built in early 1800s, this authentic Acadian home of mud, cypress and moss was transported by barge from St. Martin Parish in Louisiana to it's current location on the Neches River. It is restored and operated by Les Acadiens du Texas as a museum complex to help preserve the culture and language of the Acadian people who help settle this area of Southeast Texas as early as 1830. Rose Hill Manor (The Woodworth House) Listed in National Register, colonial style home, c. 1906. Available for renting for events and for tours. One of the oldest landmarks in Port Arthur, this two-story classical revival structure was built in 1906 as a second home for R.H.Woodworth, an early mayor of the city. W.H. Stark HouseA careful restoration of an 1894 Victorian home, typical of a wealthy Southeast Texas family. The 15-room, three-storied structure with its many gables, galleries, and distinctive windowed turret, shows the influence of several architectural styles. Today, the house stands much as it did at the turn of the century with its orignal furniture, rugs, family portraits, lace curtains, silver, ceramics, glass, woodwork, and lighting. Liberty Historical Homes Note: These three homes are at the Sam Houston Regional Library in Liberty 409-336-8821 Travel US Highway 90 to Liberty to State Highway 146 north, then exit on FM 1011. Road signs show directions to the Center. The 1848 Gillard-Duncan House Built in 1848 by Dr. Edward J. and Emma DeBlanc Gillard, this restored home with original furnishings, is open to the public for tours. The 1883 Norman House The Norman House features exhibits in an historical house setting. Current exhibits in the house are the "Victorian Parlor," with a display featuring housekeeping and food processing artifacts and the "Fashion Room," featuring an exhibit on women's clothing, accessories, and grooming aids. The Jean and Price Daniel House Officially known as the "Jean and Price Daniel Home and Archives", the structure houses, preserves,and displays the library, archives, furniture and mementos that documenttheir life and years of public service. |
